AI Is Not For The Lazy

The way we work needs to change because AI incentivises us to be meat proxies. AI is capable enough that it doesn’t take much effort to delegate our work to it. Without thought, we ask AI to make decisions and understand things that we used to decide on and understand ourselves. This is the old way of working. Work has now moved up a layer and requires more discipline and self-reflection to ensure we’re doing work that matters rather than becoming meat proxies. We need to learn to work with AI. This will lead to a more productive and happy life than simply working for AI.

This is a difficult time in history because we’re in the middle of a change that can simultaneously make us lazy and make us more capable than ever before. If you lack care, you will be lazy and produce the same output as you did a year ago using AI. But the game has shifted. If you’re producing the same output as a year ago, you’re no doubt operating at far less than your potential. The baseline has been lifted.

Time should be spent thinking, making decisions, and collaborating with peers.

I’ve met too many people who love to throw every problem they have at AI and basically let AI make decisions for them. Making decisions can be taxing, but if we drive ourselves to use our brains less, our brains will begin to deteriorate.

Throwing AI at every problem you have could be called tokenmaxxing. But it’s the wrong method of tokenmaxxing. Tokenmaxxing should mean throwing more tokens at a specific problem, rather than throwing tokens at every problem you have.
